Palmetto Hall Happenings
Throughout the year we host a variety of events, including:
Volunteers of the Year, The Audubon Bird Count Group, July 4th golf cart parade, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, the Holiday Toy Drive, and the Diaper Drive at Valetine’s Day.
Volunteers of the Year
Joe and Jodi Wieczorek were awarded the 2023 Palmetto Hall Volunteers of the Year for their great work organizing the teams that decorate the street signs in Palmetto Hall for the holidays. Joe and Jodi have been performing this service to the community for 15 years. The BOD surprised Joe and Jodi at their home with the award since they were unable to attend and receive their award at the annual meeting. They are pictured in front of their home on Clyde Lane.
Audubon Bird Count
The Bird Committee, with a dedicated team of Palmetto Hall residents, maintains 44 birdhouses along our two golf courses. During the bird breeding season, members conduct weekly surveys of each box, monitoring the type and number of eggs, the development of hatchlings, and their fledging time. This offers a unique chance to observe the birds closely and capture stunning photographs.
For many years, Palmetto Hall has been a participant in the annual Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count. Volunteers traverse each golf course on an early December morning to spot and count every bird in sight. Concurrently, Palmetto Hall residents watch from their kitchen windows, identifying and counting the birds at their feeders. These observations, combined with counts from across the nation, are compiled into a comprehensive database, providing the Audubon Society with a snapshot of bird health throughout the country. The bird pictures were provided by Linda O’Rourke.
Women's Club
The Palmetto Hall Women’s Club (PHWC) was formed to promote community spirit and fellowship among the residents of Palmetto Hall. Our membership is open to all women who are residents of Palmetto Hall and/or the Palmetto Hall Golf Club. The club provides an opportunity for women moving into Palmetto Hall to make friends, meet neighbors, grow in education and arts, and participate in opportunities to serve the local community. Thanksgiving Food Drive
The PHWC annually organizes a food drive to benefit Deep Well for Thanksgiving. Volunteers distribute empty grocery bags in the communications boxes of each resident. Residents donate nonperishable items to stock the shelves of Deep Well. This event was started years ago by former Palmetto Hall resident Betty Tufts. The long standing relationship between PHWC and Deep Wells remains strong many years later!
Holiday Toy Drive
The Holiday Toy drive is another long standing tradition for the PHWC. Each year many local families benefit from the generosity of the residents of Palmetto Hall. Toys are dropped off under the tree at the clubhouse and the PHWC members enjoy a holiday luncheon to celebrate the holidays.
Fall Festival
The POA hosts an annual get together for the community. In 2024, it was held again in October with a Halloween and fall theme. The club provided delicious food, activities for children and live music. It was a very festive atmosphere and great fun for the entire community, free of charge for residents.
Diaper Drive
The PHWC added another drive to the calendar recently when they became aware of the acute need for diapers for local families. The diaper drive was for the benefit of the Sandalwood Community Food pantry. They received a large supply of diapers from generous members of the community.
